I reckon when i start peddling, the most important thing i should have with me is a bike helmet. It doesnt matter what type of biking your into, helmets are lifesavers. Serious head injuries are reduced by up to 85 percent when the rider is wearing a bike helmet. It is important also that children learn this at an early age, as 40% of deaths caused by riding are the children under 15 category. All types of accidents cause injury to the head, not just the high speed variety. There are many different options available to you when chosing a helmet, and it best to stick to the helemts made specifically for riding. A ccomfortable and enjoyable ride asks that you get a helemt with plenty of ventilation. Also, for maximum safety, the helmet should fit perfectly. Too loose, and it will slide and move out of place, too tight, and it will be uncomfortable to wear and a lot more unsafe. A bike helmet should sit a little less than an inch above the eyebrows for maximum safety and comfort. With the straps make sure the helmet does not tilt too far forward or backwards, this exposes areas of the head which should be protected, and as a genereal rule, the chinstraps should cover both ears and be in a V shape with each ear in the middle of it. In order to keep yourself and your family safe, the helemts should be inspected before every ride. After a crash or accident, helmets can produce cracks or informaties that are unseeable. Dont risk it, make sure that you replace the bike helemt immediately to be on the safe side. Also, heat can damage your helmet out in the sun, and can change the shape of it. It can also affect the glue that binds the pieces of the helmet together. Periodically check the straps and the screws in the bike helmet. If you use your head you can keep yourself and your family safe for years to come, and keep it a fun and safe activity that will impart wise habits that will stay for a lifetime. |
